Comfrey is a fountain shaped growing plant with broad hairy leaves. Flowers are quite different, bell shaped, varying from pink to deep blue and hanging in terminal clusters. In itself comfrey is a lovely plant for large boarders or suitable for potting. Comfrey is frost resistant at all stages of growth adapting to a wide range of climates and soil types. Comfrey is rich in calcium, potassium, nitrogen and phosphates making it very similar in chemical composition to manure. Leaves can be used as a direct fertiliser, either dug into soil prior to sowing or added to compost. Leaves can be soaked in water for a month, strained and used as a liquid fertiliser.

All year round.
