Description:
Cyphomandra betacea. Height approximately 1.5m - 2m.
This evergreen with large heart shaped hairy leaves produces 5cm long egg shaped red or yellow fruit. Fruit is high in vitamins and iron and can be eaten raw or used in juices, jams, chutneys, salsas and various other savoury and desert recipes. It is recommended to remove skin prior to cooking as it is bitter.
When to sow:
Germination is best at soil temperature of 24-29 degrees Celsius. Sow directly after last frost has past or earlier if inside in a warm position. Sub-tropical areas sow in Spring.
