Luffa Cylindrica
The bathroom sponge is a fruit that will keep your skin healthy, not by eating it but by using it in the bath or shower. It has an invigoarting effect on the skin leaving it soft and glowing and it is easy to grow your own. It is the dried cellulose fibres under the skin of the mature luffa that becomes the sponge. Well grown they can reach 30-60 cm and 10-15 cm in diameter. Grow them just like the climbing cucumber over a trellis, fence or similar.
When to sow:
From Winter to early Summer and outdoors only after all danger from frost has passed.
