Cymbopogon citratus
Lemon grass leaves are very strong lemon flavour and fragrance. A perennial grass forming a dense clump with whitish bulb-like roots. Use for hot tea, a cold lemonade, bunch to form a bouquet garni or the tender stems and bulbs can be chopped finely and cooked in curries, chicken dishes or to make a marinade for barbecued fish and Asian cuisine. Can be grown in containers or garden beds where it may reach 1m.
When to sow:
Spring, Summer and early Autumn. All year round in frost free areas.
