Sweet Sandwich has been called the onion you can eat like an apple because it doesnt develop the extreme pungency that irritates your nose, mouth and eyes. Even this mellows considerably over 6-8 weeks storage, thus improving the crisp mild flavour even further. Developed by the United States Dept. of Agriculture, Sweet Sandwich is a large onion (5-8cm plus) simply superb for any use; raw in salads and sandwiches yet cooked retains the full onion flavour. A top yielding variety that keeps for up to 6 months. 

When to sow:

In warm areas sowing can be made from late Summer to early Winter. In colder southern areas from Autumn to late Winter.
